THE VETERAN ALLIANCE / VETERAN NONPROFIT INSURANCE

Your mission. Your activities. A clearer insurance review.

The Veteran Alliance’s veteran-staffed team helps veteran posts, chapters and nonprofits prepare for a licensed insurance review. VFW, American Legion, DAV, AMVETS, Marine Corps League, foundations and retreat programs can ask the team to confirm fit and availability.

Coverage topics to review

Commercial property

Buildings, contents and business interruption after covered losses.

Confirm: List every building and location; check valuation, coinsurance, wind/hail, flood, deductibles and loss-of-income terms.

General liability

Covered third-party bodily injury, property damage and certain personal or advertising injury claims.

Confirm: Describe all activities. Review participant, athletic, professional-services, firearms and abuse exclusions; defense costs and insured parties matter.

Directors & officers

Covered claims alleging wrongful acts in managing the organization.

Confirm: Confirm insured leaders, defense costs, exclusions, prior acts, claims-made dates and reporting. D&O is not a guarantee against personal liability.

Cyber liability

Covered data incidents and associated response or liability costs.

Confirm: Review member and donor records, multifactor authentication, social engineering, sublimits and incident-reporting requirements.

Commercial auto

Covered liability and optional physical damage for eligible business vehicles.

Confirm: Owned, hired and non-owned vehicles need separate review. A boat is not a covered auto just because it supports the mission.

Workers’ compensation & volunteers

Review employee work injuries and whether separate volunteer accident protection is needed.

Confirm: State law and policy definitions control who is insured. Volunteers are not automatically covered by workers’ compensation.

Liquor liability

Covered alcohol-related liability for eligible operations.

Confirm: Disclose sales, licensing, servers and events. Host-liquor provisions should not be assumed sufficient for a canteen.

Commercial umbrella / excess

Additional liability limits above specifically scheduled underlying policies.

Confirm: Confirm attachment points, retained limits, exclusions and covered underlying policies. It does not automatically sit above every coverage.

Crime & fidelity

Covered loss involving employee dishonesty, theft or other specified crime.

Confirm: Check whether volunteers, officers, funds transfer and social engineering are included; limits and verification conditions vary.

Employment practices liability

Covered allegations such as discrimination, harassment or wrongful termination.

Confirm: Confirm covered people, third-party claims, wage/hour exclusions, retention and defense terms.

Abuse & molestation liability

Specialized review for allegations involving minors or vulnerable participants.

Confirm: Eligibility, screening, supervision, exclusions, reporting and available limits require explicit underwriting review.

Special events & facility rental

Review event operations, contracts and required insurance.

Confirm: Check attendance, vendors, alcohol, additional-insured endorsements and cancellation terms. A certificate alone does not amend a policy.

Tenant & user event liability

Event coverage options for eligible people or groups renting a facility.

Confirm: Confirm the named insured, event dates, venue, alcohol and required endorsements; this does not replace the organization’s policy.

Firearms & honor guard liability

Specialist review of ceremonies, honor guard and shooting-sports exposures.

Confirm: Describe firearms use, ammunition, training, transportation and participants; do not assume general liability includes these activities.

Inland marine / scheduled equipment

Eligible portable property and equipment away from the premises.

Confirm: Schedule items and check transit, storage and valuation. Boats, trailers and animals may need distinct coverage.

WC deductible reimbursement

Review any separately offered workers’ compensation deductible reimbursement arrangement.

Confirm: Confirm provider availability, eligibility, reimbursement triggers and limits. It does not replace workers’ compensation.

Explore actual mission activities

The interactive mission map follows hall, canteen, event and team operations, plus off-site transport, portable equipment and program activity. Selecting a marker explains the review questions. Adding an activity changes the visitor’s own discussion guide; it does not establish coverage.

Inspect the modeled cash path

Choose 3, 6, 12 or 24 months, then inspect a month. Projected cash equals starting cash plus the entered monthly surplus or shortfall multiplied by elapsed months. This simple projection excludes growth, seasonality, changed costs and borrowing. A negative value represents a modeled funding gap, not available cash or an approved credit line.

What the interactive tools calculate

Brain Dump and shared planning figures

Tell the existing Sgt. Savings post-operations story tool about your organization. Supported stated figures feed the budget and event charts. Check and correct facts; unknown figures remain blank in the charts. Activity word matches are suggestions that you confirm before applying to the coverage discussion guide. This page’s working session resets on reload or departure; an explicit reviewed inquiry can carry the story and stated figures to the team.

Monthly operating picture and runway

Monthly income = member count × annual dues ÷ 12 + other monthly revenue. Monthly surplus or shortfall = income − monthly operating costs. If there is a shortfall, cash runway = cash on hand ÷ monthly shortfall. The complete chart requires all five inputs; unknown revenue is not treated as zero. The model does not predict seasonality, collections or unentered costs.

Event break-even

Break-even attendance = total event cost ÷ net ticket revenue per attendee, rounded up. Modeled event balance = assumed attendance × net ticket revenue − event cost. A positive net ticket amount is needed. These planning calculations do not guarantee attendance or fundraising results.

Liability layers

The illustration allocates an assumed covered loss to an entered available underlying limit, then an entered additional excess limit, then the remaining amount above those limits. It assumes compatible coverage and direct attachment. It excludes defense expenses, aggregates, deductibles, retained limits and exclusions; it does not estimate a claim payment or offer specific limits.

Percentage deductible comparison

Percentage deductible illustration = entered scheduled building value × entered deductible percentage ÷ 100. Compare that dollar result with a separately entered flat-dollar assumption. Actual policy language controls the calculation base, minimum, perils, locations and whether a deductible applies per building or occurrence. This is not a claim estimate or offered deductible.

Compare the policy, then compare the price

Ask the team for the appropriate protected document handoff. Do not put member rosters, account numbers, personal identifiers or private medical details into a general inquiry or chat.

Common questions

Does national affiliation insure our local organization?

Affiliation alone is not proof of coverage. Review the actual national or department policies, local policies and endorsements.

Are volunteers automatically insured?

No. State law and the contract determine workers’ compensation eligibility. Ask about volunteer accident and liability protection separately.

Does umbrella insurance cover every underlying policy?

No. Confirm scheduled underlying insurance, attachment points, exclusions, retentions and aggregates. Specialized policies may need separate excess coverage.

Can a certificate add coverage?

A certificate is evidence of insurance. Policy terms and endorsements establish coverage; a certificate does not amend them.

Does the story tool submit an application?

No. Brain Dump on the page is a local working session using the existing post-operations engine. Stated budget figures can drive planning charts. A visitor separately reviews and sends an inquiry to the Alliance team.

How does the event calculator work?

Divide total event cost by net ticket revenue per attendee and round up. Include per-person costs in the net revenue assumption. Attendance is not guaranteed.
